Raul, our oldest child, 16, started complaining about his leg hurting the last week of June. He thought he had hurt himself while playing basketball. We told him to take a break, which he did, as best as an active teenager could do. A couple of weeks later, after not much improvement, we took him to the doctor. The doctor told us to go and get x-rays right away and then come right back. The X-rays didn’t look good.
We took Raul to the emergency room and the doctors there said: “it looks like there is a tumor, possibly bone cancer on his leg just below his knee.” After a couple more weeks, and after many hours, multiple trips to the hospital, x-rays, MRI, biopsy, CT scan and PET scan, the results came back with a huge blow that would change our lives, especially our sweet boy’s for we don’t know how long. Raul was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (Bone Cancer) in his left leg below his knee, a few small spots on both lungs, and a good-sized mass on his left lung.
Cancer is definitely something you don’t want to hear from a doctor especially when it involves your child.
He has chemo treatments for the next 26 weeks or so, along with other treatments, surgery and more testing.
Elizabeth & Luis Marquez (Parents)
Raul is an amazing Grandson. He is kind, thoughtful, fun, faithful, and happy. He excels in basketball, art, and academics. His goal is to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, get married, have a family, and become an architect.
We are optimistic that Raul will pull through this trial but we don’t know what the future holds when it comes to Raul’s recovery, finances, and what types of hidden costs there may be.
During this time both parents are having to take time off from work for hospitalizations, doctor’s appointments, testing, and days when Raul needs more support. This is an added stress on the family that was never anticipated.
Donations of any amount help and every penny is greatly appreciated by Raul and his family to help them through this trying time.
Continued prayers for Raul and his family is especially welcomed and appreciated. We already feel the power of united prayer. We pray for health and strength for Raul. We feel our Heavenly Father’s love, support and strength!
